KINGSTON, Jamaica (Sporting Alert) — Zharnel Hughes and Raheem Chambers both set 100m records at the Jamaica High School Boys and Girls National Championships in Kingston, on Friday night.
Both sprinters removed records previously held by double Olympic silver medallist Yohan Blake.
Chambers rocked from the blocks and then held his form all the way through the race on his way to a stunning 10.29 seconds to take the boys’ class two 100m dash.
His run broke the long-standing record for that age group at the meet, previously held by Blake, who had set the record in 2006.
In the class one boys’ race, Hughes, representing Kingston College high school, but a native from Anguilla and a member of Usain Bolt sprint champ, produced a personal best of 10.12 seconds to win the gold medal and lowered Blake’s old mark of 10.21 in the age group, set in 2007.
Jevaughn Minzie was also very very fast, running a remarkable 10.16secs for second place and dipped below the previous record as well.
