MUNICH, Germany (Sporting Alert) — AC Milan will be without a few of its top players, but the Serie A side is looking to playing at the Audi Cup 2013 and will open against Manchester City today.
notably missing from the Ac Milan squad is forward Mario Balotelli, featured for the Italian national team at the Confederation Cup in June.
He was also sent home after the group stage after picking up and injury and manager Massimiliano Allegri is giving him more time to concentrate on getting fit for the start of season.
“Everyone who took part in the Confederations Cup have just come back from holiday and have stayed at Milanello including [Cristian] Zapata who has a slight fitness problem,” Allegri told his press conference on Tuesday.
“They will join us in Frankfurt for the trip to the United States. We don’t really need a defender as such but Silvestre is a good player.”
English Premier League side Manchester City enters this cup tournament on the back of winning the Barclays Asia Trophy over the weekend and manager Manuel Pellegrini reveals that he will have his strongest squad available.
“Are all the players here in Munich?” he responded to a question at the Press conference. “Yes the whole squad is here except for Matija [Nastasic]” who is out injured.
“I don’t know who will play against Milan yet. It’s more important we see who is fit and who is ready to play.”
