HOUSTON, Sporting Alert – College football AP Top 25 scores and results from the games that took place in Week 5 on Saturday, October 1.

NO. 2 OHIO STATE 58, RUTGERS 0

A well-rested No. 2 Ohio State recovered from a slow start to pound Rutgers 58-0, with quarterback J.T. Barrett starring in nearly three-quarters of football.

Barrett broke a school record for career touchdown passes, after he threw four TD tosses in a dominating performance for the home side to improve his personal record to 59 TD passes in 27 career games for the Buckeyes (4-0, 1-0 Big Ten).

The junior went 21 of 29 on completed passes for 238 yards with one interception before making way for backup Joe Burrow in the closing seconds of the third quarter.

Freshman tailback Mike Weber had 14 carries for 144 yards and a score before leaving the contest seat in the third quarter, while Demario McCall ran 10 times for 85 yards and a score for Ohio State.

Curtis Samuel, Dontre Wilson, Marcus Baugh and Terry McLaurin all caught passes for touchdowns in the win.

NO. 13 BAYLOR 45, IOWA STATE 42

Chris Callahan made a 19-yard field goal as time expired and No. 13 Baylor survived being upset, after beating Iowa State 45-42 on Saturday in a thrilling college football battle on Saturday.

Trailing 42-28, entering the fourth quarter, the Bears (5-0, 2-0 Big 12) rallied through short scores from Seth Russell and Terence Williams from scoring drives of 86 and 84 yards to tie the game.

Russell also drove Baylor 83 yards to place the visitors in a good position for Callahan to secure the win with his chipped shot from 19 yards.

Russell was 12 of 22 for 178 yards and ran another 88 yards and two scores, while Shock Linwood carried the ball 25 times for 237 yards and score and Terence Williams caught two touchdown passes 126 yards.

NO. 23 FLORIDA 13, VANDERBILT 6

Jordan Scarlett ran for a 4-yard touchdown and Eddy Pineiro made two field goals to help the 23rd ranked Florida to a 13-6 victory over Vanderbilt.

Scarlett rushed for the opening score of the game with 6:27 left in the second quarter, while Pineiro made field goals from 42 and 26 yards to help wrap up the victory for the Gators (4-1, 2-1 Southeastern Conference).

Ralph Webb ran for 110 yards in the only bright spark for Vanderbilt 2-3, 0-2), which outgained Florida 265-236 in total offense.
