Manager Jose Mourinho decided to go with an unchanged starting lineup from last weekend’s 4-1 win over Leicester City, which means there was no place for Rooney again.

The captain will be on the bench alongside the likes of Anthony Martial, Memphis Depay, Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini.

Hard working pacers Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard and playmaker Juan Mata all kept their places in the lineup in support of striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who scored the winner for the Red Devils in the Europa League in midweek against Zorya Luhansk.

David De Gea, Antonio Valencia, Daley Blind and Ander Herrera, who sat out the 1-0 win over Zorya Luhansk, comes back into the team to replace Sergio Romero, Tim Fosu-Mensah, Marcos Rojo and Fellaini.

Centre-back Phil Jones remains out long-term as he continues to recover from a knee injury and Mourinho revealed on Friday the England international will be on the sidelines for “more weeks.”

Manchester United are seeking their fourth successive win in all competitions and will face a Stoke City side that is still looking for their first Premier League victory this season.

The visitors, like Manchester United, are also unchanged for this clash, with former Red Devil Mame Biram Diouf named on the bench.

Bruno Martins Indi, Geoff Cameron, Joe Allen, Xherdan Shaqiri, Wilfried Bony and Marko Arnautovic all start in Mark Hughes’ side.

A win for Manchester United in this fixture, will put Mourinho’s side in third place until the remaining EPL games kickoff later.
