Arsenal can move into third place in the Premier League standings with a win over Bournemouth at Vitality Stadium.

The Gunners are on 40 points after 19 games but will move above Manchester City with a win and keep the pressure on leaders Chelsea and second-place Liverpool.

Arsenal lost 2-1 at Manchester City and Everton over Christmas and they will be hoping to avoid a third successive defeat on the road for the first time since 2011.

The Cherries, meanwhile, are ninth and will remain in that position regardless of the result on Tuesday.

Manager Eddie Howe is hoping his team can slide into a consistent run.

“We’re still in that moment as a team where we haven’t consolidated any consistent run. That’s what we’re looking to do,” said Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe.

“The players have the ability to respond to disappointments and the ability to produce, individually, some very good performances.

“So it’s a case of trying to do it on a more consistent basis will be the key for us.”

Arsenal will be hoping midfielder playmaker Mesut Ozil, who missed the win over Crystal Palace because of illness, recovers in time for this game.

Manager Arsene Wenger, though, will for sure be without midfielder Mohamed Elneny, who is off to the Africa Cup of Nations.

Forward Theo Walcott and defender Kieran Gibbs could both miss out due to injuries.

For Bournemouth, forward Benik Afobe, who netted the winner against Liverpool in that dramatic comeback, will be available for the game after deciding to skip this month’s Africa Cup of Nations with DR Congo.

At the same time, on-loan midfielder Jack Wilshere is ineligible to face his parent club, while the club says winger Marc Pugh remains uncertain through injury.

The fight for survival will also be in focus on Tuesday as bottom side Swansea City travel to face Crystal Palace.

Swansea are sitting last in the Premier League standings on 12 points after 19 games and must start winning if they are going to recover from a frustrating first half of the season.

The other game in the league on Tuesday is Stoke City against Watford at bet365 Stadium.
