Aguero will be playing for the first time since the 3-1 win over Southampton at the end of November and the Argentine forward starts ahead of Wilfried Bony, who is on the bench.

Raheem Sterling and Jesus Navas are also on the bench as they make way for Fabian Delph and Kevin De Bruyne in midfield.

In defense, Aleksandr Kolorov comes in for Gael Clichy at left-back.

Manchester City continue to be without leading centre-back Vincent Kompany, so Nicolas Otamendi
and Eliaquim Mangala will be the starters again today.

“Vincent Kompany is a massive loss for City but now they have Sergio Aguero back,” former Manchester United defender Phil Neville said.

“I fancy City’s midfield tonight, they look a powerful team tonight. We have not seen a big performance from them in the league for some time. Tonight could be that night.”

Fernandinho and Yaya Toure are among the starting midfielders.

Meanwhile, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger named an unchanged team from last weekend’s 2-0 win away to Aston Villa for today’s game, which means Olivier Giroud continues up front and Joel Campbell keeps his place as well.

Theo Walcott and Mesut Ozil will act as supporters for the attackers, while Aaron Ramsey and Mathieu Flamini continue in the middle with Santi Cazorla and Francis Coquelin both injured.

Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny are at the heart of the defense with Hector Bellerin and Nacho Monreal starting as the full backs.

Arsenal can move within two points of the lead with a win.
