The clash at Prague’s Stadion Eden will also see Mourinho resuming his managerial rivalry with former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola as the Europa League title holders Chelsea face Champions League winner Bayern Munich.
Mourinho has been busy fine-tuning his squad to have a successful campaign and he hopes victory on Friday night can help build a consistent winning mentally amongst his players.
“It’s good for us. Before we start the Champions League it’s very good to play with Bayern,” Mourinho said.
“I don’t want players to feel that because we were successful in the Europa League, you can keep the same level and you can be successful in the Champions League, because it’s a different planet.
“What I really feel is that in spite of a difference in experience between the two teams and the stability Bayern has – because over the last years they were basically the same team, the same players – we can compete against them.
“And when you compete eye to eye, it means you think you can win and we think we can.”
The EPL side will be without recently signing Willian, who did not travel to Prague with the rest of his new teammates.
However, David Luiz and Tomas Kalas, who has recovered from hamstring and leg problems were included in the travelling party.
Munich coach Guardiola, like Mourinho, is also hoping to win the UEFA Super Cup after missing out on the three times they’ve contested the final.
Club captain Philipp Lahm is determined as well to bring home the trophy.
“Our task is to bring this trophy to Munich at last,” Lahm said.
