Current Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola departed the German champions for the English Premier League at the end of last season, while former Real Madrid and Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti took that vacant slot the Spaniard had left.

Wednesday’s match will be the first in the 2016 pre-season for Manchester City, while Bayern Munich will suit out in their second game, following the narrow 4-3 win over SV Lippstadt in their opener.

“For both teams, it’s an opportunity to prepare well for next season,” Ancelotti said. “It is a friendly game but of course we want to do our best.

“Everyone wants to win but the result isn’t important.

“I want my team to play well and show a good performance. That’s it!”

Ancelotti praised Guardiola for the job he did during his three seasons with the Bundesliga side and is looking forward to meeting the former Barcelona boss in what will be his home debut.

“I have a very good relationship with Pep,” Ancelotti commented last week. “He did an outstanding job here.”

Bayern Munich, especially in the German league, has been dominant under Guardiola guidance, but Ancelotti wants to implement his own way of playing.

The Italian coach said: “I already know my team very well. Every coach has his own style.

“I’ll try to introduce my ideas, but Pep has shaped FC Bayern’s style of play of course.”

Ancelotti also outlined what exactly he wants to accomplish on Wednesday: “We want to win and turn in a good display.

“Every friendly is important to us, but tomorrow’s match is even more important since it’s our first home match.”

Meanwhile, in their six previous meetings, both teams have split the results, as none of the prior clashes ended in a draw.

The last friendly meeting between the two sides was in the summer of 2013 when the home side, with goals from Thomas Muller and Mario Mandzukic collected the win.

Also in pre-season action on Wednesday are English Premier League outfits Chelsea, which play against Wolfsberger AC, Liverpool will travel to meet Huddersfield Town, while West Ham United will take on Rubin Kazan.
