MANCHESTER, Sporting Alert – After featuring in all three of Manchester United pre-season games so far, Daley Blind has revealed that he hopes to earn a starting spot under new manager Jose Mourinho.
Blind, who was brought to Manchester United by outgoing manager Louis van Gaal, had been linked with a move away from Old Trafford ever since Mourinho took over the club earlier this summer.
However, the Dutchman has played in all three of the Red Devils’ pre-season matches – in both defence and in midfield – and he now hopes to win the trust of Mourinho, as he seeks to help the club bounce back from an overall disappointing season under Van Gaal last term.
“People were making that mistake very quick,” Blind was quoted by the Daily Mirror as saying. “But nothing was said and just like all the other guys I want to work very hard and get my spot in the team.
“I think in football, you never really have assurances. But I believe if you are confident and work hard that you will get chances.
“What I’m saying is not only for me but everyone in the squad. That’s what I do, work hard and I want to be part of the team.”
It is clear that Mourinho has the Netherland international well in his plans for the future given his statement recently.
The Portuguese coach said that any player not in his projects would not get “one single minute” which means Blind, who is expected to battle with the likes of Chris Smalling, Eric Bailly and Phil Jones for centre-back slots, should not be worried.
The former Chelsea is yet to finalise his squad for the coming season, but he already made his intentions clear.
“Well if they were not in my plans I would not give them one single minute,” Mourinho said on Manchester United official website at www.manutd.com. “I wouldn’t keep them in my squad.”
