College Men’s Basketball Top 25, ESPN3 Games: Nov. 17

CHICAGO, Sporting Alert – AP top 25 men’s basketball coverage takes center-stage on Tuesday night with Duke v Kentucky and Kansas v Michigan in Chicago.

Both games will be available on ESPN and streaming live on WatchESPN

Without a doubt, the featured matchup on the night, at least on paper, is the top five clash between No. 2 Kentucky and No. 5 as part of the 2015 State Farm Champions Classic at United Center in Chicago.

Both teams started the season with back-to-back wins last week, but one will lose its early winning streak which could prompt changes in the rankings.

Of course a defeat now for either programs wouldn’t hurt their season, but we all know no one likes to lose.

The Blue Devils (2-0) secured wins over Siena, 92-74 on Friday night and Bryant, 113-75 on Saturday night in the 2K Classic, but face stronger opposition Tuesday night.

Sophomore guard Grayson Allen has been on fire for Duke in the opening two games of the season, after scoring 26 points against Siena and then tallying a career-high 28 points the following night against Bryant.

Allen heads into the battle with the Wildcats averaging 27.0 points and 4.0 assists, while senior forward Amile Jefferson, who has collected double-doubles in the first two games, is shooting 66.7 percent from the field.

Kentucky will certainly have to work out a way to keep both Allen and Jefferson quiet in this clash.

At the same time, the SEC powerhouses come into this game with their own weapons with head coach John Calipari preparing his team for battles like these down the stretch.

Kentucky outpaced Albany 78-65 on Friday night in their opener before rolling over NJIT 87-57 the following evening to get the season off to a positive start.

Skal Labissiere arrives shooting 76.5 percent from the field, while averaging 17.5 points per game in the two openers.

The other big-time matchup in the 2015 State Farm Champions Classic on the evening comes in via Michigan State against Kansas.

The No. 4 Jayhawks warmed up for the clash with the No. 13 Spartans by making light work of Northern Colorado in a 109-72 win last week, with Brannen Greene leading the way with 18 points off the bench, while four starters scored in double figures.

Michigan State took care of Florida Atlantic 82-55 in their opener at Breslin Center and comes into this tasty matchup well motivated.

In other AP top 25 games on the night, No. 3 Maryland tackles Georgetown, No. 8 Oklahoma do battle with Memphis, with Nebraska facing No. 11 Villanova and Milwaukee going up against No. 18 Notre Dame.
