Leading the back on Saturday and marching into the round of last 16 were the No. 1 overall seed Florida Gator (34-2), which secured a 61-45 win over the ninth-seeded Pittsburgh (26-10) at Amway Center in Orlando, Florida.
Scottie Wilbekin paced Florida with 21 points on the day, while Michael Frazier II was the only other Gators player in double figures with 10 points.
“We just wanted to come out and not let them play harder than us or not play as hard as we can,” Wilbekin said after the win.
“I think we did a good job of having our energy up at the start of the game, and we played together on offense and played together on defense.”
In another result, defending champions and No. 4-seeded Louisville (31-5) stifled the attack of the fifth-seeded Saint Louis (27-7) on their way to a 66-51 victory.
The day though, belong to 11th-seeded Dayton (25-10), which stunned No. 3-seeded Syracuse (28-6) 55-53 and advanced to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 1984.
