Three of those players registered double-doubles, with freshman Marvin Bagley III finishing with a game-best 25 points and 10 rebounds and fellow newcomer Wendell Carter Jr. adding 23 points on 11 of 13 shooting with 14 rebounds for Duke.
“He (Bagley III) had made a lot of progress. The kid, he really loves to play. He is just unique and you have to let unique happen,” Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski said about Bagley III’s progress.
“Today he was really comfortable with letting that happen with still being part of the team, where it’s not just about you. He’s got to be able to go. He’s got that quick second jump, quicker than almost anybody and hit or miss, he’s boom, boom, boom.”
Senior guard Grayson Allen ended with 21 points and 11 assists and freshman Gary Trent Jr. scored 22 points and made 5 of 9 from 3-point range for the Blue Devils.
Also making a useful contribution in the win for Duke was Marques Bolden, who scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
“I thought Marques did a really good job,” said Krzyzewski.
The home side dominated the tune-up from the get-go and opened up a comfortable 42-point halftime lead, at 69-27 and shot an impressive 69.4 percent from the floor at the break.
David Belle scored 13 points to lead Bowie State, with Ahmaad Wilson adding 12 and Omari George scoring 10 in the defeat.
Overall as a team, Duke shot 59.0 percent on 46 of 78 shooting and had 27 assists.
The Blue Devils outrebounded the Bulldogs 58-27 and dominated in points in the paint — scoring 76 points in that area compared to the visitors’ 14.
Duke opens its 2017-18 regular season campaign on Friday, Nov. 10 when it plays host to Elon live on ACC Network Extra.
