LONDON (Sporting Alert) — The following are the English Barclays Premier League games that are on the schedule for Saturday, Jan 17.
Three of the top four teams, including leaders Chelsea will be in action on the day, as the title race and relegation battle continues in the New Year.
Leaders Chelsea will travel to the Liberty Stadium for a very tricky fixture against Swansea City, who themselves have aspirations of playing in Europe next season.
The Blues are on 49 points and can go five points clear of defending champions Manchester City with a win on Saturday, as the Citizens are idle until Sunday when they face Arsenal.
Third place Southampton, who are still buzzing after beating Manchester United last week to leapfrog them, will face manager-less Newcastle United at St. James’ Park.
The Saints have been in good form recently and they take on a Newcastle United side that has won once in the last six outings and dropped four games during that period as well.
Elsewhere on Saturday, fourth place Manchester United travels to Loftus Road Stadium to face Queens Park Rangers — hoping to bounce back from their disappointing results at Old Trafford last week, which ended their undefeated run.
The defeat was a massive blow in United’s title hunt, but new signing Angel Di Maria believes things are starting to get better.
“From the start of the season to now, you can see that we’ve grown. We weren’t so great at the beginning but we’ve started getting a few victories under our belts,” he said on www.manutd.com.
“There are some people saying that we’re not playing in a particularly good style or that it’s not the old Manchester United – but it’s not. We’re beginning something new here.
“We’ve got a new style, we’ve got a new manager and we’re all working hard to make sure we’re putting Manchester United back where it belongs.”
In other games, Aston Villa entertains Liverpool at Villa Park, Crystal Palace tackle Burnley at Turf Moor, Leicester play hosts to Stoke City at King Power Stadium, while Sunderland travels to White Hart Lane to take on Tottenham.
