LONDON, Sporting Alert – English Premier League standings after 16 games with Chelsea continue to lead their rivals in the title race.
Antonio Conte’s side opened up a six-point advantage on Liverpool and Arsenal after registering its 10th straight win with a 1-0 victory over Sunderland on Wednesday.
The Blues lead the standings with 40 points and have won 13 games overall.
They are guaranteed top spot over Christmas.
Cesc Fabregas scored the only goal of the game, while goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois made two important second-half stops, including a brilliant save late in the game to protected the 1-0 scored at the Stadium of Light.
“We have 10 wins in a row and that’s fantastic because that’s very difficult in this league,” Conte said.
“It is important to continue to work and I prefer my players don’t look at the table.
“On Saturday we will have another tough game against Crystal Palace and then it’s Christmas and we hope to stay with a good table.
“I think we are doing great work and I am pleased for the players because they show me great commitment and this result is fantastic for us.”
Liverpool leapfrog Arsenal into second place after the Reds won and the Gunners lost.
Both teams are on 34 points and have the same goal difference but Liverpool have a better goal tally than Arsenal in the EPL thus far this season.
Manchester City hold up the other Champions League spot at the moment – sitting fourth on 33 points after stopping a two-game skid with a 2-0 win over Watford on Wednesday.
Tottenham bounced back from the defeat to Manchester United with a 3-0 win over the slumping Hull City, and they complete the Top 5.
They are followed by Manchester United in sixth with 27 points, West Bromwich Albion (23), Everton (23), Southampton (21) and Bournemouth (21) in the Top 10.
Next come Watford, Stoke City, Burnley, Leicester City and West Ham United at 11 through 15.
The bottom five are Crystal Palace, Middlesbrough, Swansea City, Hull City and Sunderland.
