MANCHESTER (Sporting Alert) — Manchester United have announced that Andreas Pereira has signed a new deal that will keep him at the club until at least June 2018.

Pereira, who was strongly linked to French giants Paris Saint-Germain in the media, was going to be out of contract at Man United in the summer and there were suggestions that he would leave.

However, the 19-year-old midfielder, who joined the Manchester United Academy system in 2011, ended all the speculations by committing his future to the club, and is now looking forward to earning a place in the first-team setup regularly.

He made his debut for the Red Devils in August 2014 in the League Cup clash against MK Dons, while featuring in the EPL for the first time against Tottenham at Old Trafford.

“I am pleased to have signed my new contract,” Andreas Pereira said on Man United official website at www.manutd.com. “I would like to thank the manager for giving me the opportunity to join the first-team squad.

“I made my Premier League debut against Tottenham Hotspur and to play at Old Trafford in front of so many fans was a dream come true.

“I am at the right club to continue my development as a player and to learn as much as I can. I want to thank my family and God for the opportunity he has given me.”

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal was keen to keep one of the club’s brightest talents and he too was “delighted” about the extension.

“I am delighted that Andreas has signed a new contract,” said Van Gaal, who is known to give youngsters their chance to play with the first team if he thinks they are ready.

“Andreas has all the attributes to become an integral part of the first team; great natural talent coupled with a good appetite to learn.

“I am pleased with his progression so far this season and look forward to working with him to develop his talent even further.”

It was only recently that central defender Chris Smalling had also signed a new contract deal to keep him at Old Trafford, following news that Arsenal were interested in making a bid for him in the summer.
