LONDON (Sporting Alert) — English Premier League results from the match that took place on Saturday, Oct. 25.

There were six EPL games on the day, but the highlighted result in Week 9 came at Upton Park, where West Ham United shocked defending champions Manchester City 2-1 in the early kick-off.

Morgan Amalfitano and Diafra Sakho scored the goals for West Ham in either side of 45 minutes, while David Silva netted for Man City, who dropped to third place after the defeat.

“We put Manchester City’s back four to task and, in my opinion, they didn’t hold up,” Sam Allardyce said.

“The quality of our play in the final third is why we have won the game. When you have got quality players, quality players look forward to the big games.

“Alex Song led us as a team and the rest of the lads responded.”

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini said after his team’s disappointing defeat: “West Ham played very well and with a very high intensity.

“We had a lot of chances to score but it is difficult to win if you don’t take them. We were very unlucky in the second half, we hit the post and went just wide with another.”

Southampton, who has been having a tremendous season so far, beat Stoke City 1-0 and moved up to second, with Sadio Mane collecting the goal in the 33rd minute of the game.

There were also wins in Week 9 for Arsenal and Swansea City, while West Bromwich Albion and Crystal Palace ended 2-2 and Liverpool failed to beat Hull City after the pair ended goalless.

A brace from Alexis Sanchez piloted Arsenal to a 2-0 over Sunderland, who now conceded 10 goals in two games, while Swansea City picked up a 2-0 victory against Leicester City, with Wilfried Bony scoring both goals for the Swans.
