LONDON (Sporting Alert) — Chelsea continue to lead the English Premier League table standings, but Southampton are also having an impressive run in the EPL this season.

On Saturday Jose Mourinho’s side came from a goal down to beat Liverpool 2-1 and moved four points clear at the top of the standings.

After 11 games played, Chelsea are setting the pace with 29 points — winning nine and drawing two — while scoring 28 goals in the process.

The Blues have been setting the example this season, but Southampton, despite losing several key players in the summer, have taken the EPL by storm with Ronald Koeman’s side sitting second on 25 points.

The Saints continued its outstanding start with a 2-0 win over Leicester City on Saturday, with substitute striker Shane Long grabbing both goals in the win.

“Shane made the difference (on Saturday),” Koeman told reporters. “He might have been disappointed not to be playing but his attitude was fantastic.

“We have had a good run in the last few weeks but we need a rest.

“That’s difficult because we have 17 players on international duty. We hope they all come back fit.”

Defending champions Manchester City stayed third with 21 points after they were held 2-2 by QPR, who had led the game 2-1.

West Ham United stayed in hunt for a Champions League place, as they sit in fourth on 18 points, the same amount as fifth-placed Swansea City, who beat Arsenal 2-1 in Wales on Sunday.

The Gunners are sixth in the EPL standings with 17pts, one more than seventh-placed Manchester United.

An on-form Newcastle United moved up to 8th with a 2-0 win over the dipping West Bromwich, while Stoke City moved into the top 10 – on ninth – following a 2-1 win at Tottenham.

Leicester City, Queens Park Rangers and Burnley, the three promoted teams to the league from the Championship, are at the bottom of the Premier League, after 11 round of games.
