(Sporting Alert) — The following are the NCAA College Women’s National Tournament Games for Saturday, March, 22, as the journey for this year’s title begins.
No. 1 seeded Tennessee (27-5, 13-3 SEC), who have been on good winning form this season, take a seven game-winning streaking into their clash with (16) Northwestern State (21-12, 11-7 Southland), hoping to avoid an upset on day 1 of the tournament.
The Lady Volunteers, who started the season with an impressive 10 game-winning streak, have also won 13 of their last 14 games overall and will be looking to keep pushing on.
Second-seeded Stanford (29-3, 17-1 Pac-12) will be hoping to bounce back from losing to USC in the Pac-12 tournament semi-finals when they take on (15) South Dakota.
Defeat in that games cost the Cardinal a No. 1 seed in this year’s national tournament, but head coach Tara VanDerveer believes its probably a good thing.
“I think it will be good for our team. The 1 seed didn’t help us last year,” VanDerveer said. “The seeding doesn’t really matter to me honestly.
“We’ve got to play well. If this is a slap in the face that you won the Pac-12 but you didn’t win the tournament … let it be a chip on people’s shoulder. I think it can all be good for us.”
Also in action on Saturday’s first day are No. 1-seeded Notre Dame, who match up against the 16th-seeded Robert Morris, No. 2-seeded Baylor versus 15th-seeded Western Kentucky, as well the second-seeded Duke against (15) Winthrop.
