No. 16 South Carolina is the lone ranked outfits on the fixture tonight and the Gamecocks will battle with Seton Hall here in the Under Armour Reunion at Madison Square Garden.
Live coverage is set for 9:00pm ET and is on FOX Sports 1 and you can stream it live on Fox Sports GO.
South Carolina has won eight straight and is off to another impressive start to open a season.
The Southeastern Conference (SEC) outfits are coming off a 70-54 win over Florida International on Sunday and did so without leading contributor Sindarius Thornwell.
Thornwell was suspended indefinitely last week for violating an athletic department policy, the school announced, and did not feature in Sunday’s game
Head coach Frank Martin told ESPN that the senior guard will not play Monday in New York against Seton Hall.
Martin revealed the senior travelled with the team to New York, but there is no set date for his return.
Thornwell is averaging 18.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game.
Frank describes the reason for the guard’s suspension as a “mental injury.”
“He will do everything other than play in the game,” Martin told reporters. “That’s important. Sometimes, you miss time because of an ankle injury, a knee injury, a pulled hamstring.
“You can’t allow an injury to deprive your team of becoming who it’s supposed to be. … This is a mental injury.
“He made a mental mistake. It’s the same deal. He’s fine and Sin’s earned my respect and my trust for who he is. No different than my own son.”
Duane Notice scored 27 points and P.J. Dozier added 20 in the win for the Gamecocks against the Golden Panthers and the pair who are both scoring in double-digits this season, will be hoping to deliver a similar performance on Monday with Thornwell unavailable again.
Meanwhile, Seton Hall (7-2) will look to pick up its fourth win in a row.
The Pirates are coming off a 60-57 win over California in a Pearl Harbor Invitational clash in Hawaii last Wednesday night, with junior forward Angel Delgado collecting a double-double with 16 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.
It was his third straight double-double of the season and he got useful help from Desi Rodriguez, who scored 15 points and Khadeen Carrington, who had 14 points with four assists.
Carrington leads Seton Hall this season in scoring with 20-points per game.
Delgado is averaging a double-double this season with 13.6 points and 10.9 boards.
Monday night’s clash will be just the second meeting between South Carolina and Seton Hall.
According to STATS LLC, the Gamecocks won the previous meeting 75-74 in 1974, also at Madison Square Garden.
Monday’s meeting between South Carolina and Seton Hall will be the second game of a doubleheader at the venue with Auburn and Boston College will battle in the first contest at 6:30pm.
