Among those set to play on Tuesday is the second-seeded Roger Federer, who will get his campaign underway against Marinko Matosevic in primetime action.

The Switzerland star player is one of the favorites to win this year’s tournament, but although he’s confident of doing well the 33-year-old isn’t getting too carried away.

“I’m coming in with great confidence,” Federer said. “I can rest now, rather than having to work on stuff. It’s just about maintaining and that’s really good for the mind.

“I can enjoy New York for what it is and go out to the practice courts and do the opposite of what I had to do last year when I went out there and did three-hour practice sessions and went for extra practice sessions after matches sometimes.

“This time, I know my game is where I want it to be.”

Meanwhile, No. 4 David Ferrer of Spain will take on Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Damir Dzumhur, while the 10th-seeded Kei Nishikori play Wayne Odesnik, No. 12 Richard Gasquet face Denis Istomin, the 13th-seeded John Isner face Marcos Giron and No. 15 Fabio Fognini will play against Andrey Golubev.

On the women’s side No. 1 Serena Williams will take on Taylor Townsend as she seek to open her title quest in what could be a very tricky first round matchup.

Williams believes 18-year-old Townsend is one of the future players in American women’s tennis and she is expecting her countrywoman to play very well in their clash on Tuesday.

Also in action as well on the women’s side are No. 3 Petra Kvitova, who will take on Kristina Mladenovic, while the seventh-seeded
Eugenie Bouchard will matchup with Olga Govortsova.
