New manager Pep Guardiola is full of confidence heading into the season opener, following an impressive preseason campaign and the former Barcelona coach is hoping that form will continue during the competitive fixtures.
Guardiola has dismissed suggestions that he is the best coach in the world, following his brilliant run with Barcelona – noting that with the likes of Xavi and Lionel Messi, he was in charge of the best team in the world.
In Bayern Munich, a team that won the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and Champions League treble under Jupp Heynckes last season, Guardiola has inherited another stunning squad and he is once again depending his players for more success.
“I am not the best coach in the world, I was coach of the best team in the world,” he said.
“We had a great performance for a long time, but a coach is dependent on his players. It’s not important how good I am.
“What matters is that I’m able to get my ideas across to my players. It’s important that the players trust me.
“I just like to convince my players and support them in showing their qualities. That is my aim, that is what I am focused on.”
Borussia Monchengladbach will expect a good game from this group at Allianz Arena, but coach Lucien Favre, who has transformed his team into a challenging group, believes it will be a very tough opener against the champions.
“I look forward to every Bundesliga match. It’s a fantastic league. You play top teams every weekend and the stadiums are always full,” Favre said.
“But it’s very special to be starting against Bayern. We know all about it – it was the same two years ago.”
Borussia Monchengladbach have won five Bundesliga title the same amount as Borussia Dortmund, while Bayern Much are way ahead with 22 domestic league titles.
