DURHAM, North Carolina, Sporting Alert – No. 5 Duke has announced that one its top freshman, Jayson Tatum, will make his first appearance of the season against Maine today.
ESPN reported the news and Duke also echoed those reports on the school’s official basketball Twitter account, tweeting “He’s back” in reference to Tatum make his debut.
The 5-Star Freshman will not just be playing in the game on Saturday, he has been given a starting role as one of the guards.
Duke revealed Tatum will join Matt Jones, Amile Jefferson, Luke Kennard and Chase Jeter in the starting five.
Jefferson is putting up 16.0 points and 11.8 boards over the last five games.
Coach Mike Krzyzewski’s team is 7-1 overall on the season and has won five straight games since losing to Kansas on Nov 15.
ESPN is also reporting that coach Krzyzewski revealed on the pre-game show that Marques Bolden “could potentially play tonight” as well, but Harry Giles is expected sit this one out again.
Frank Jackson, who is averaging 15.4 points and Grayson Allen, who is averaging 17.1 points and 5.3 rebounds this season, will both be rested tonight.
Allen has battled with a toe injury.
Duke will be looking for a very fast from the likes of Kennard, who is putting out 17.5 points, 6.6 rebounds and 3.4 assists per contest and senior Jefferson, who is averaging 14.0 points and 9.9 rebounds.
Both Allen and Jackson are on the bench.
