MANCHESTER (Sporting Alert) — Shinji Kagawa is set to return for Manchester United in Tuesday night’s UEFA Champions League football clash with Shakhtar Donetsk at Old Trafford.
Kagawa missed the EPL game against Newcastle United, which Manu lost 1-0 at home on Saturday because of a stomach problem, but his manager David Moyes says the Japan international is available for the Shakhtar clash.
“Shinji trained today and I think he’ll be okay tomorrow (today),” he said on www.manutd.com.
Manchester United come into the game needing only a point to secure pole position in Group A, but it could be a long night for the defending Premier League champions, who dropped back-to-back games at home in the league last week.
A return for Kagawa, would more than likely see him moving over to the left side, with Wayne Rooney, who will return from his suspension, set to play behind Robin van Persie in the attack.
Meanwhile, captain Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra and Chris Smalling remain doubtful for the clash after they missed Monday’s training session at the Aon Training Complex.
“There’s a little bit of that in my thinking,” Moyes stated. “We have got one or two injuries that I need to look at and that will come into consideration.”
He added: “Yes, they are injury doubts.”
Manu beat Bayer Leverkusen 5-0 in their last Champions League football outing to stay top of the group and Moyes is confident his team will finish the job, despite the hiccups in the league.
