It is believed that after watching Tuesday night’s training session in preparation for the clash, van Gaal has decided to play a 3-5-2 formation, at least for the first half, with Chris Smalling, Jonny Evans and Phil Jones playing in the three man back line.

Shaw and Antonio Valencia will play as wing backs, while Herrera will play in central midfield alongside Darren Fletcher, who will captain the side tonight.

The Manchester United starting lineup also includes Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck, with David De Gea starting between the sticks at the Rose Bowl.

Amongst the starters tonight for the Los Angeles Galaxy is former English Premier League striker Robbie Keane, who is looking forward to taking on one of the giants of English football.

LA Galaxy starting XI: Penedo; Gargan, Meyer, Leonardo, DLG; Ishizaki, Sarvas, Juninho, Husidic, Keane, Zardes.

Manchester United starting XI: De Gea, Smalling, Jones, Evans, Shaw, Valencia, Fletcher, Herrera, Mata, Welbeck, Rooney.
