Latest NBA results on Jan. 6

Friday was a big night for the NBA, with a number of exciting games taking place. Check out our recap, results and scores and the standout performance around the league.

In the Brooklyn Nets’ 108-102 win over the New Orleans Pelicans, Kevin Durant had an impressive 33 points and 10 rebounds, with Kyrie Irving tallying seven of his 19 points in the final 1:12 to help secure the victory. Read more: No. 1 Purdue will face Penn State on little rest

T.J. Warren and Royce O’Neale also contributed to the win with 15 and 14 points, respectively. The Pelicans, who were without the injured Zion Williamson, were led by CJ McCollum and Naji Marshall, who scored 28 and a career-high 23 points, respectively.

The Charlotte Hornets made history in their 138-109 win over the Milwaukee Bucks by matching an NBA record with 51 points in the opening quarter. Terry Rozier scored a season-high 39 points for the Hornets, while LaMelo Ball and P.J. Washington added 24 and 23 points, respectively. 

Giannis Antetokounmpo held to new low

Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo had a rare off night, scoring a season-low nine points in 22 minutes. Bobby Portis had a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds for the Bucks, who have now lost six of their last nine games.

LeBron James returned to the Los Angeles Lakers lineup and led the team to a 130-114 win over the Atlanta Hawks with 25 points, 10 assists, and 7 rebounds. Kendrick Nunn scored 23 points and Russell Westbrook added 18 points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists for the Lakers, who have now won four games in a row. 

Trae Young had 21 of his 32 total points after halftime for the Hawks, who have lost five of their last six games.

In other notable performances, Nikola Jokic had a triple-double with 28 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 assists for the Denver Nuggets in their 121-108 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers

The Nuggets are now 26-13 and have a 16-3 record at home. Z. LaVine also had a standout game for the Chicago Bulls, scoring 41 points and hitting 11 three-pointers in the team’s 126-112 win over the Philadelphia 76ers.
