LIVERPOOL (Sporting Alert) — Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has named Daniel Sturridge in his starting XI for today’s English Barclays Premier League clash against Aston Villa at Anfield.
The England forward recently returned from an ankle injury and has been seeing most of his action off the bench.
However, after his impressive goalscoring performance in the last outing in that thrilling 5-3 win over Stoke, Rodgers has decided to hand Sturridge his first start since November 9, as he partners the English Premier League leading goalscorer, Luis Suarez in the Liverpool attack.
Exciting winger Raheem Sterling also starts again, while Lucas Leiva has been dropped to the bench.
Midfielder Joe Allen is on the bench after missing three matches through injury.
For Aston Villa, on loan new recruit Ryan Bertrand is handed his debut for the club, but Grant Holt is only on the substitutes’ bench.
