The matchup at Old Trafford will also see another head-to-head battle between Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola this season. Game time Wednesday is 3:00pm ET

Last time Manchester City and Manchester United clash, the Citizens came away 2-1 winners in the English Premier League.

The Red Devils are coming off an embarrassing 4-0 defeat to Chelsea in the league at the weekend and Mourinho must figure out what is going on with his team.

Leading centre-back Eric Bailly will miss the game for United as it looks like he suffered serious knee ligament damage in Sunday’s 4-0 loss at Stamford Bridge.

This means that Daley Blind will move back inside to partner Chris Smalling, while Luke Shaw or Marcos Rojo will start at left-back.

Captain Wayne Rooney, who missed the defeat to Chelsea, is doubtful for Manchester United as well, after Mourinho revealed that the England forward picked up an unspecified muscle injury during training.

Midfielder Marouane Fellaini will also be assessed, while Mourinho could hand playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan a starting place in his side.

Versatile defender Phil Jones remains out long-term with a knee injury.

Meanwhile, Guardiola has admitted that this EFL Cup clash with Manchester United will be like a final.

This means the Spaniard is expected to name a strong side for this derby.

However, attacking playmaker Kevin De Bruyne has been ruled out with a calf injury he picked up against Southampton, while right-back Bacary Sagna is still out with a hamstring problem and Pablo Zabaleta is doubtful with a foot issue.

The other two EFL Cup clash on Wednesday will see West Ham United hosting Chelsea and Southampton entertaining Sunderland.
