Men’s Basketball: AP Top 25 Rankings In Week 11 On Jan. 15

MIAMI, FL, Sporting Alert – Villanova remains No. 1, while Virginia improves to No. 2 in the latest AP Top 25 rankings, released on Monday. Virginia, Purdue, Oklahoma and Duke complete the Top 5 in the AP Top 25 rankings.

MIAMI, FL, Sporting Alert – Villanova remains No. 1, while Virginia improves to No. 2 in the latest AP Top 25 rankings, released on Monday.

The Wildcats (16-1, 4-1 Big East) stayed at the top of the poll after receiving 63 of 65 first-place votes from a media panel, following wins over then-No. 10 Xavier and St John’s last week for 1,623 points.

Virginia jumps one place to second this week after last week’s No. 2 team West Virginia split its two conference fixtures.

The Cavaliers (15-1, 4-0 ACC) received one first-place vote after beating Syracuse and North Carolina State last week to remain undefeated in a conference they were selected to finish sixth.

Purdue (17-2, 6-0 Big Ten) collected the other No. 1 vote and moved up two spots to No. 3, after extending its winning streak to 13 games with victories over Michigan and Minnesota.

Completing the Top 5 are Oklahoma at No. 4 and Duke, which moved up five and two places, respectively.

Following the narrow 72-71 defeat to Texas Tech at the weekend, West Virginia slipped four spots to No. 6 in Week 11, while Wichita State drops two places to No. 7.

Texas Tech at No. 8, Michigan State, which fell five places to No. 9 and Kansas round out the Top 10.

Xavier, Cincinnati, Gonzaga, Arizona and North Carolina make up the Top 15.

The Top 20 is round out by Arizona State, which slipped five spots to No. 16, Auburn, Kentucky, Seton Hall and Clemson.

Ohio State and Michigan are the two newcomers in the AP Top 25 rankings this week at No. 22 and No. 23, with Tennessee at No. 21 and TCU and Miami slipping to complete the last two places.

Creighton dropped out of the ranking from No. 25 after the defeat to No. 10 Xavier.
