MANCHESTER, Sporting Alert – Henrikh Mkhitaryan is officially now a Manchester United after the English Premier League club confirmed his signing on its website on Wednesday.
During his first press conference as manager of Manchester United on Tuesday, Jose Mourinho revealed the English giants had signed a third player, before tracking to state that the club was very close to making a third signing.
Of course, the media and football followers knew that it was Mkhitaryan after Borussia Dortmund, late last month, revealed that they had accepted an offer from the Premier League side for the player.
The Red Devils, on Wednesday, confirmed that the midfielder has penned a four-year deal from the German club with the option of adding another year, and the Armenian international says it’s “a dream come true!” to be moving to Old Trafford.
“I am very proud to join Manchester United, this move is a dream come true for me,” Mkhitaryan told the club’s official website at www.manutd.com.
“I am excited to play for a club with such an illustrious history and hope to be part of it for a long time. I thank the trust the club and Jose Mourinho have put in me.
“Finally, I believe playing for such a great club honours my father’s memory, and the inspiration and drive he gave to me when I was young.”
Mourinho, who was making his third signing of the summer, was also delighted to finalize the deal for Mkhitaryan.
“Henrikh is a very talented footballer who has been in such prolific form for both his club and his country,” the Man United boss said in a statement released by the club.
“He is a real team player with great skill, vision and also has a good eye for goal. I am delighted he has chosen to sign for United.
“I believe he will make an impact on the team very quickly as his style of play is suited to the Premier League. We are all looking forward to working with him.”
The 27-year-old Mkhitaryan made 140 appearances and scored 41 goals for Borussia Dortmund after joining them in 2013.
During his impressive campaign last season, he scored 23 goals and assisted on another 32 in all competitions.
He created 83 chances and assists on 15 in the German Bundesliga last season, while being voted Bundesliga Player of the Season for 2015/16 term.
