MEMPHIS, TN (Sporting Alert) — NCAA College Men’s Basketball Tournament Scores and results from the Sweet 16. The games took place on Thursday, March, 27.
As predicted, the No. 1 seeded Florida (35-2), the top team in the country and Arizona (33-4) both marched on into the Elite Eight, but the day belong to the 11th-seeded Dayton (26-10), who just keep surprising.
The top-seeded overall in the tournament, Florida Gators, extended its win streak to 29 games, following a 79-68 victory over No. 4 seed UCLA (28-9) in Thursday night’s Sweet 16.
The Gators secured a place in the NCAA Elite Eight for the fourth successive year.
West Region No. 1 seed Arizona recovered from a slowish start to pick up a 70-64 win over No. 4 seed San Diego State (31-5), with PAC-12 Player of the Year Nick Johnson scoring all 15 of his points in the last 2:44.
However, the highlight on the night came at the FedExForum in Memphis, where the underdog Dayton Flyers beat Stanford 82-72 to book a place into the NCAA Elite Eight for the first time since 1984.
In the Elite Eight on Saturday, Florida will play against Dayton at 6:09 PM ET in the South Region Final, while Arizona, at 8:49, with tackle Wisconsin in West Region Final.
