INDIANAPOLIS, Sporting Alert – No. 1 Villanova looks to stay undefeated this season when it travels to Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis to take on Bulter in what is expected to be a thriller in Big East play on Wednesday night. The Wildcats (14-0, 2-0 Big East) have won a school-record 20 straight games since losing to Seton Hall in the Big East tournament on Mar. 12, 2016, and the defending national champions are hoping to extend that mark on Wednesday night.
In its last outing, Jalen Brunson tallied a career-high 27 points, Kris Jenkins added 21 and key-man Josh Hart ended with 18 points and 10 rebounds, as the top-ranked Villanova pick up an 80-70 victory over No. 10 Creighton on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Bulter (12-2, 1-1) beat Providence 78-61 in league action on Sunday to warm-up for the Wildcats.
The Bulldogs are 8-0 at home this season and have three wins against ranked teams – Arizona, Cincinnati and Indiana – already this campaign.
However, Wednesday night’s matchup is expected to be their hardest challenge thus far this season.
Villanova is favoured by 68 percent to win against Butler, according to ESPN’s Basketball Power Index, with the Bulldogs given a 32 percent chance to upset the reigning national champion in Indianapolis.
Josh Hart, who leads the Wildcats in scoring at 20.8 points per game, also leads the Big East in scoring as well.
Next comes Jalen Brunson at 13.9 points per game, Kris Jenkins at 13.4 and Mikal Bridges at 10pts per game.
Butler is being led by Kelan Martin with 18.1 PPG, which is fifth in the Big East.
Andrew Chrabascz is also scoring in double figures at 11.9 points per game for the Bulldogs.
