(SportingAlert.com) — As expected, there is no Cristiano Ronaldo or Pepe, but Nani starts for Portugal in this evening’s World Cup warmup clash with Greece.
Ronaldo is still struggling with pains in his left thigh, which forced the Real Madrid forward to miss training on Friday, while Pepe, who like Ronaldo, was a member of Real Madrid’s Champions League title winning team last week, is also recovering from an injury and given the day off.
Head coach Paulo Bento said on Friday that the captain would be rested for this game, but is confident that he will be ready for the World Cup tournament.
Meanwhile, Nani, who has been limited for Manchester United this past season because of injuries, starts alongside Eder and Helder Postiga in the Portugal’s attack.
Manchester United linked William Carvalho, Miguel Veloso and Silvestre Varela all start as well, with the likes of Fabio Coentrao, Joao Moutinho and Hugo Almeida all on the bench.
Celtic forward Georgios Samaras leads the attack for Greece.
