Arsenal will finish 2013 as the top team in the English Premier League, while the race for top places heats up after Sunday’s set of game. Here are the results, scores and EPL standings on Sunday Dec. 29.

LONDON (Sporting Alert) — Arsenal will finish 2013 as the top team in the English Premier League, while the race for top places heats up after Sunday’s set of game. Here are the results, scores and EPL standings on Sunday Dec. 29.

Arsenal beat Newcastle United 1-0 to frog leap Manchester City and go to 42 points, one more than the Citizens, while Chelsea beat Liverpool 2-1 at Stamford Bridge to go third on 40 points.

Everton ended the year in the top four, following a 2-1 victory over Southampton.

So after Sunday, Arsenal leads the English Premier League standings, followed by Manchester City, Chelsea, Everton (37pts), Liverpool dropped from first to fifth with 36pts.

Manchester United is at sixth with 34pts, the same amount as seventh Tottenham who hammered Stoke City 3-0 at home on Sunday.

Sunderland will end the year at the bottom of the table, with Fulham and West Ham United in the relegation zone as well
