Manager David Moyes confirmed the reports that the England striker has not travelled with the champions and will subsequently not feature this afternoon.

This opens the door for Shinji Kagawa to get his chance to start, but this also means that Manchester United will be without their most influential player this season, as Rooney has scored or assisted in 12 of the clubs 20 away goals in the EPL this season.

Danny Welbeck, who has also been in good form recently, starts on the bench with Javier Chicharito Hernandez leading the attack. Adnan Januzaj is on the bench again.

Michael Carrick and Ryan Giggs also start so too does Nemanja Vidic.

Norwich boss Chris Hughton makes three changes to the side that started in the 2-1 home defeat to Fulham with Russell Martin, Ryan Bennett and Wes Hoolahan coming in.
