For the home side Sunderland, new boss Gus Poyet has decided to give a starting place to former Liverpool left-back Andrea Dossena, as he seeks to find a way to start winning games and move out of the relegation zone.
However, there’s no place in the starting team for Emanuele Giaccherini, who is on the bench.
For Newcastle United, Paul Dummett starts in the backline, but although Wes Brown recovered from a calf problem sustained in pre-season, he is not involved.
