EPL Halftime Scores on Dec 12 WK 16

LONDON, Sporting Alert – EPL halftime scores from the games already taking place in Week 16 on Saturday, December 12.

At the Etihad Stadium: Manchester City are leading Swansea City 1-0 at halftime after former Swan, Wilfried Bony scored against his old club in the 26th minute.

Jesus Navas delivered a corner kick, which Bony met with his head to break the deadlock, this after Ashley Williams failed to keep track of his man inside the box.

At the Stadium of Light: Odion Ighalo netted an early goal to give Watford the lead against Sunderland, although it looks as though Blackcats defender Sebastian Coates may have gotten the final touch before the ball crossed the line.

Ighalo fended off a challenge from Coates to guide home a cross from Allan Nyom at the near post from close range, but the Sunderland defender may have had the final touch.

At Selhurst Park: Yohan Cabaye scored in the 38th minute to give Crystal Palace a 1-0 lead at halftime in their EPL clash with Southampton.

Busy winger Yannick Bolasie found Cabaye inside the box and the midfielder easily tap home from six yards.

EARLIER EPL SCORES

Earlier in the EPL morning kick-off, Everton and Norwich City finished 1-1 at Carrow Road.

In-form Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku added another goal to his tally this season after scoring the opener for Everton in the 15th minute when he head home from the back post off a cross played in by Gerard Deulofeu.

However, Norwich grabbed an equaliser through Wes Hoolahan, who slid the ball home from close range with Ross Barkley desperately trying to clear off the line.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez said: “We are very, very disappointed because our first half performance was as good an away performance as you’ll see.

“Like Monday, our performance deserved more. We need to make sure we learn from this period.

“We feel unfortunate not to have three points. We need to develop how our ruthless edge.

“We need to make sure we defend our box properly to back up all the attacking flair at the other end.”

English Premier League Scores, Results In Week 9 On Oct. 17

LONDON, Sporting Alert – Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United were all Premier League winners in Week 9 on Saturday.

Arsenal and Manchester United both secured respective 3-0 victories over Watford and Everton, while Manchester City put five goals past new boys Bournemouth.

The Citizens maintained their two-point cushion in the table standings after routing Bournemouth 5-1.

Summer recruit Raheem Sterling led the way with his first-ever senior hat-trick, while striker Wilfried Bony, who led the attacking line for the injured Sergio Aguero, netted a brace.

Manchester City were 3-1 inside the opening 29-minutes and then grabbed another early strike one-minute into the second half to dent Eddie Howe’s men hopes of making a comeback.

After putting three past Manchester United in the last outing, Arsenal kept pace with the English Premier League leaders with another three-goal winning performance.

Second half strikes from Alexis Sanchez, Olivier Giroud and Aaron Ramsey guided the Gunners to victory as they moved to 19 points in table standings after nine games.

After the game, winning manager Arsene Wenger praised his team, and especially star forward Sanchez for the winning display.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports football pundits Jamie Redknapp and Thierry Henry both backed the men from London as legitimate title contenders, but added that they need to start being more consistent.

Manchester United showed no effect of the 3-0 loss to Arsenal in Week 8, as they went to Goodison Park and handed Everton a similar defeat

Morgan Schneiderlin grabbed his first goal for the Red Devils and Ander Herrera and captain Wayne Rooney each added one for Louis van Gaal side in the road win.

Man United and Arsenal are both on 19 points in the standings.

In the meantime, defending champions Chelsea picked up a much-needed victory in the league, following a 2-0 result over Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge.

Diego Costa opened the scoring in the 34th minute and Alan Hutton deflected a ball past his own goalkeeper in the 54th to hand Chelsea the win.

Elsewhere on the day, Dimitri Payet scored the pick of the goals in deep into second half stoppage time and West Ham United moved to fourth with a 3-1 win over Crystal Palace.

Liverpool, with manager Jurgen Klopp taking charge of his first game, finished 0-0 with Tottenham at White Hart Lane, while Southampton through away a two-goal lead and were held 2-2 by Leicester City.

LONDON, Sporting Alert – Results and standings from the English Premier League, following the games that took place this past weekend in Week 6.

The week saw leaders Manchester City and Arsenal both losing, while Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham were among the winners.

Manchester City were shocked 2-1 by a very confident West Ham United side that went to the Etihad Stadium and scored the opening two goals of the contest.

Before Saturday’s defeat, Man City had a 100-percent record in the Premier League and had not conceded a goal in the EPL this term.

The win saw the Hammers, who have also defeated Liverpool and Arsenal already this season, moving to third-place in the table standings with 12 points, the same as Leicester City, which played to a 2-2 draw with Stoke City, this after trailing again.

Arsenal went to Stamford Bridge and failed against Chelsea, after Jose Mourinho’s men took all three points with a 2-0 win.

The Gunners also finished the London derby contest with nine-men, following the sending off of Gabriel Paulista and Santi Cazorla.

Manchester United moved into second place in the Premier League standings with a 3-2 victory over Southampton on Sunday.

Summer recruit Anthony Martial netted twice in the victory for Manchester United – his third goal in the league from two games, while Juan Mata added another.

The Red Devils moved to second place on 13 points – two behind Manchester City.

Tottenham, in the meantime, edged Crystal Palace 1-0, West Bromwich picked up a similar result over Aston Villa, while Newcastle United were stunned 2-1 by the newly promoted Watford.

Stoke City, Newcastle United and Sunderland are battling in the relegation zone.

Premier League wrap; scores and table standings – Dec. 26

LONDON, England (Sporting Alert) — Leaders Chelsea have retained their three-point advantage at the top of the English Premier League table with a win against West Ham, while Manchester City and Manchester United both secured Boxing Day victories.

Goals from John Terry and Diego Costa on either side of 45-minutes, guided Jose Mourinho’s squad to a comfortable 2-0 victory over the Hammers at Stamford Bridge on a day that all the teams were in action.

Captain Terry, who also netted the opener against Stoke City, was scoring his second goal in two games and Mourinho was delighted for the veteran defender.

“He always had that (goalscoring ability),” Mourinho said. “He’s full of confidence. I see my John of 2004, 05, 06. I see him. I don’t see any difference.

“In him there is no difference. He’s playing so good.”

The victory saw Chelsea moving to 45 points in the EPL standings, with Man City right behind them on 42 points.

Manchester City, playing again without a recognized striker, dominated the opening 45 minutes on their way to scoring three goals during that period in the 3-1 win over West Brom at The Hawthorns.

Fernando, Yaya Toure (pen) and David Silva all found the back of the net in the first half for the defending champions, with Brown Ideye scoring the lone goal for West Brom in the 87th min.

“I am very satisfied, we have three points more,” Man City boss Manuel Pellegrini told reporters after the game.

“It was a difficult game, especially on Boxing Day. It is always difficult to play against a difficult team at home. They defended very well.

“We scored three goals again when set up without strikers. The way we are playing, we are doing very well so far.”

At Old Trafford, Manchester United easily turned back Newcastle United 3-1, as captain Wayne Rooney earned the Man of the Match award for his performance.

The English and United forward — playing in a midfield role again — scored twice and setup Robin van Persie for the third.

Manchester United stayed third in the points standings with 35 points and manager Louis van Gaal was “pleased” with his team’s performance.

“I was very pleased because we dominated for 90 minutes,” the Dutchman said.

“In the second half we are only thinking already of the game against Tottenham (on Sunday) because there were unnecessary losses of the ball. But overall I’m very pleased with the performance.

“We make progress in every game but we are also doing bad things in every game and we have to improve that.

“But I’m satisfied because we are dominating a lot of games, most of the games we have played this season we have dominated. We’re not always winning but that is coming.”

Southampton moved above West Ham with a 3-1 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, while Arsenal stayed sixth with 2-1 win over Queens Parker Rangers, despite going down to 10-man after forward Olivier Giroud was sent off.

Tottenham, Swansea City and Liverpool all won their respective fixtures on Friday to complete the top half of the standings.

In the battle for relegation, Crystal Palace and Burnley have joined Leicester City in the red zone.

Premier League Results – Aug 24

LONDON (Sporting Alert) — The following are the results from the games played in the English Barclays Premier League on Saturday. A total of seven games were played on Saturday.

After losing on opening day of the season, Arsenal bounced back with a convincing 3-1 victory over Fulham, with German forward Lukas Podolski netting a brace for the Gunners. Olivier Giroud was the other Arsenal scorer, while Darren Bent scored the lone goal for Fulham.

“We were impressive and always in control. We deserved the win and it’s a good win,” said Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger after the game.

“We had a convincing win against Fenerbahce and that was a good response to the disappointing first result (against Aston Villa). We played the way we wanted to play, we were in control and the team enjoyed it.”

There were also 1-0 victories for Liverpool and Hull City over Aston Villa and Norwich City, respectively.

England forward Daniel Sturridge netted a beauty in the 21st minute for Liverpool, while Robbie Brady scored a first half penalty in Hull’s win.

“We just needed to defend a bit deeper today, Aston Villa are brilliant on the counter and we had to deny them chances,” Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers said.

“It’s a great win for us because they are such a difficult team to play against.

“We were calm on the ball in the first half, our movement was fluent and very good and we knew we couldn’t open up too much because they would hurt us on the counter.”

The defeat for Aston Villa was their second in a row, after a midweek defeat to Chelsea and boss Paul Lambert said: “We have had really tough week. We have had those two intense matches against Arsenal and Chelsea with quick turnarounds.

“These are three teams that are vying to get in the top four, top five. I am proud of the team for what they have done.

“If I could have taken three points from these three games I would have taken it right at the beginning.”

MANCHESTER (Sporting Alert) — The following are the results from the opening week of the English Barclays Premier League which concluded on Monday night.

After Manchester United and Chelsea opened with victories over the weekend, Manchester City showed just how dangerous they’ll be with a thumping 4-0 win over ten-man Newcastle United.

Sergio Aguero, David Silva, Samir Nasri and Yaya Toure all scored for Manuel Pellegrini to make a winning debut in the EPL.

“The most important thing always is to win but afterwards, it is the way we did it,” the Manchester City boss said.

“It was a very good start. I was very confident the team would play well because we worked very hard during pre-season.

“We are trying another style of football and maybe we can continue improving every week but for the first match we did it very well.”

Robin van Persie had scored twice and Danny Welbeck, a brace as well, in Manchester United’s 4-1 win over Swansea City on Saturday to give new David Moyes a winning start, while Jose Mourinho returned to Premier League and at Chelsea with a 2-0 win over newly promoted Hull City.

It was a bad opening week for Arsene Wenger and Arsenal, who suffered a shocking 3-1 defeat at home to Aston Villa on Saturday.

Liverpool and Tottenham both picked up identical 1-0 wins over  Stoke City and Crystal Palace, respectively.

ENGLISH Barclays Premiership Results – WEEK ONE, Aug 17

LONDON (Sporting Alert) — Robin van Persie and Danny Welbeck both scored braces and defending champions Manchester United started the new English Premier League season with a 4-1 win over Swansea City, but Arsenal was beaten at home by Aston Villa on Saturday.

Below will be all the results from the opening day’s fixtures in the Premier League.

After a less than convincing preseason, all eyes were on David Moyes’ men at The Liberty Stadium, and the Red Devils gave their new manager a winning start to campaign.

Van Persie opened the scoring with neat-looking finish in the 34th minute before his strike partner Welbeck doubled the tally after tapping home a cross from Antonio Valencia from close range two minutes later.

The Holland striker made it 3-0 in the 72nd minute with a brilliant effort, while Welbeck, who only scored once last season finished off a nice pass from Wayne Rooney with a chipped effort over the head of Michel Vorm in stoppage time.

New signing Wilfried Bony had made it 3-1 for Swansea City in the 82nd minute prior to United’s fourth goal.

Meanwhile, ten man Arsenal let a one goal lead slipped and was beaten 3-1 at home by Aston Villa, with Christian Benteke scoring twice and Antonio Luna adding another in the 84th minute.

Olivier Giroud had given Arsenal a sixth minute lead when he guided home a cross from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Laurent Koscielny was sent off for two bookable offenses.

Elsewhere, Daniel Sturridge scored the lone goal for Liverpool to beat Stoke City 1-0, with new Reds keeper Simon Mignolet making some fin saves, including a late penalty from Jonathan Walters.

Joe Cole and Kevin Nolan scored for West Ham United in their 2-0 win over new boys Cardiff City, Rickie Lambert scored a late penalty to give Southampton a 1-0 win over West Bromwich, Sunderland suffered a 1-0 defeat at home to Fulham, while Ricky van Wolfswinkel scored the equaliser in Norwich City’s 2-2 tie with Everton.

Boxing Day Premier League Results – Dec. 26

(Sporting Alert)  Javier Hernandez scored a late winner for Manchester United to beat Newcastle 4-3, while Aston Villa suffered another thrashing against Tottenham on the busy Boxing Day Premier League fixture.

There were nine games on schedule on Wednesday, but the highlight was at Old Trafford where Manchester United came from behind three times to beat Newcastle United.

James Perch, a Jonny Evans own goal and Papiss Demba Cisse gave Alan Pardew’s side the lead three-times, but Evans, Patrice Evra and Robin van Persie cancelled out those strikes – paving the way for Hernandez to net the winner in the 90th minute from a beauty of a pass from Michael Carrick.

The win sees the leaders moving seven points clear at the top of the Premier League table after defending champions and second place Manchester City were dumped 1-0 after a former club player Adam Johnson struck in the second half.

At Villa Park, Gareth Bale scored a hattrick and the youthful Aston Villa side was thought another stern lesson after Tottenham thrashed the home side 4-0.

Villa have now conceded 12 goals over the Christmas period, following the 8-0 thumping at Chelsea on Sunday.

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert said: “Any defeat is tough and I feel sorry for them a little bit. I cannot fault the effort of the players though.

“The players were fine after the Chelsea game but they are a young side and it is a long season. We have played Chelsea and Spurs, two tough sides and now we have to win on Saturday.

“Taking nothing away from Spurs, they were very good in the first half but we defended strong. We kept on going.”

In other results on Wednesday, Stoke City, courtesy of a brace from Jonathan Walters stunned Liverpool FC 3-1 after the Reds took the lead in the second minute through a Steven Gerrard penalty kick.

“We all work for each other, front to back, and it was a full team effort today, a good win for us. If we win the ball in their half it puts pressure on them.

“We can mix it up, play high up the pitch and that’s the extra armoury we have,” Walters said.

“We haven’t conceded many this year and we conceded early, but there was never a chance we’d lie down and there was some great play – especially in the second half. Kenwyne wins everything in the air – you’ve just got to make runs off of him and keep your head.”

Chelsea FC beat Norwich 1-0 on the road, with Juan Mata scoring the winner there, while Everton continue to impress this season, following a 2-1 victory over Wigan.

QPR dropped their game 2-1 at home to West Bromwich, while Reading and Swansea City finished 0-0.

The Arsenal FC game with West Ham United was postponed.

Barclays Premier League Results and Scores – Dec. 24

LONDON (Sporting Alert) — Chelsea FC scored the biggest result in the Barclays Premier League fixtures on Sunday, Dec. 23.

Two goals from substitute Ramires guided Chelsea to a thumping 8-0 win over Aston Villa – a win that saw midfielder Frank Lampard becoming the club’s leading scorer in the English Premier League.

But on the same day, leaders Manchester United were held 1-1 by Swansea, despite taking an early lead through left-back Patrice Evra.

However, playing like Swansea City’s footballer of the year and certainly the buy of the season so far, Michu tapped home his 13th goal of the season to inspire the draw.

In other latest football results from the English top flight, defending champions Manchester City edged Reading 1-0 on Saturday, with England midfielder Gareth Barry scoring the stoppage time winner.

There were also wins for Liverpool, Arsenal, Everton, Newcastle, Sunderland and West Bromwich.

Mikel Arteta finished off a 60th minute penalty kick and Arsenal scored a 1-0 win over Wigan, Newcastle had a similar result over QPR, as did Sunderland over Southampton.

Steven Gerrard, Stewart Downing and Luis Suarez were all on target as Liverpool FC hammered Fulham 4-0 at Anfield.

West Ham United went down 2-1 to Everton, Norwich undefeated streak ended with a 2-1 defeat to West Bromwich, while Tottenham were held 0-0 at home by Stoke City.

Barclays Premier League Results – Dec. 15

MANCHESTER (Sporting Alert) — Manchester United went back to six points clear at the top of the Barclays Premier League table standings on Saturday after beating Sunderland 3-1 at Old Trafford.

Manchester City had cut the gap at the top to three points, following a similar win over Newcastle United, but goals from Robin van Persie, Tom Cleverley and Wayne Rooney sealed the victory for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side.

Substitute Frazier Campbell headed in a consolation goal for Sunderland by it was also an easy outing for the leaders.

In the early kick-off at St. James Park, Sergio Aguero, Javi Garcia and Yaya Toure scored the goals for Manchester City in their 3-1 win over Newcastle.

Striker Demba Ba had pulled one back in the 51st minute to make the score 2-1, but City were too dominant for the home side which struggled today without several key midfield players.

Another big time struggler at home in the Premier League today were Liverpool, who were thumped 3-1 by the visiting Aston Villa.

Christian Benteke and Andreas Weimann gave Aston Villa a 2-0 first half lead before Benteke netted again early in the second half to make it 3-0.

Captain Steven Gerrard netted for Liverpool in the 87th on a disappointing afternoon for the Reds at Anfield.

QPR moved off the bottom of the Premier League table with its first victory of the season. Harry Redknapp’s side beat Fulham 2-1 with Adel Taarabt scoring both goals for Rangers.

Norwich continued its fabulous run in the league this season with another win, this time a 2-1 win at home over Wigan. Stoke City and Everton ended 1-1.

LONDON (Sporting Alert) — Manchester United, Arsenal and Manchester City were all winners in the Barclays Premier League this weekend.

Defending champions City saw-off the challenges of QPR with striker Carlos Tevez getting amongst the goals in the 3-1 victory on Saturday.

However, one of the highlighted games of the weekend came at St Mary’s where twice Manchester United had to come from behind to beat newly promoted Southampton 3-2, with summer signing Robin van Persie scoring a hat-trick and landing his 100th league goal on the same day.

Also on Sunday new boys Lukas Podolski and Santi Cazorla both scored as the Gunners finally got off the mark in the goals column, following the 2-0 win over a disappointing Liverpool side at Anfield.

Picking up victories on Saturday were West Ham United, which beat Fulham 3-0 and West Bromwich, which had a 2-0 win over Everton.

LONDON (Sporting Alert) — Tottenham Hotspurs’ late season struggles continued in the Barclays Premier League on Saturday after they were shocked 1-0 by relegated threatened QPR.

Premier League results on Saturday also saw Blackburn Rovers beating Norwich City 2-0, Newcastle United cruising past Stoke City 3-0 and Fulham coming from behind to beat Wigan 2-1.

Tottenham, which have picked up just five points in its last five outings, were beaten 1-0 by Queens Park Rangers after Adel Taarabt scored what turned out to be the winner in the 24th minute.

Yohan Cabaye scored a brace and Papiss Cisse netted another and Newcastle moved into fourth place and Champions League contention.

Mauro Formica and David Hoilett scored for Blackburn in the win over Norwich, while there were 0-0 draws between Arsenal v Chelsea and Aston Villa v Sunderland.

Bolton and Swansea finished 1-1, while Philippe Senderos scored an 89th minute winner for Fulham to beat Wigan 2-1.
