DES MOINES, Iowa (Sporting Alert) – A number of finals are set for day three at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Drake Stadium on Saturday.

USATF.TV Webcasting Schedule
2013 USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships and Junior Track & Field Championships

All times Eastern
June 22nd – 7:30am to 7pm (Only field events from 4-7pm)

Amongst the events scheduled to highlight the third day of senior action are the men’s and women’s 400m and 400m finals, respectively, which is well poised to produce world-leading marks when the day is over.

LaShawn Merritt is the big favourite to win the men’s open 400m after coasting to 44.35 seconds when winning his semi-finals on Friday. Tony McQuay (44.72) and David Verburg (44.75) were also below the 45-seconds barrier.

On the women’s side Olympic champion Sanya Richards-Ross (51.53) struggled into the final with only a fastest loser spot and could find the going rough to even make the top six without an improved outing on Saturday.

All eyes will be on semi-finals heat winners Francena McCorory (50.53) and Natasha Hastings (50.67) and many are backing this battle to produce a sub-50 seconds time.

Over the barriers in the discipline, Bershawn Jackson and Michael Tinsley looked very impressive in their semis and a fast final is expected.

Elsewhere on Saturday, teenage sensation Mary Cain will search for a spot on the women’s 1500m title when she races the likes of season veterans Shannon Rowbury and Kerri Gallagher, as well as Gabriele Anderson in the final.

Tyson Gay, fresh off his world-leading 9.75 seconds clocking to win the men’s 100m title on Friday night, takes focus on sealing the double when he races in the heats of the 200m.

Wallace Spearmon, Justin Gatlin, Walter Dix, Charles Silmon and Isiah Young are all entered.

On the women’s side, 100m champion English Gardner also has her eyes on winning her first national double, but will need overcome Allyson Felix, who opens in heat one of the first round of the women’s 200m.

Lolo Jones looked good in her heat of the women’s 100m hurdles and will run in semi-finals two alongside Virginia Crawford, Queen Harrison and Kristi Castlin.

Dawn Harper, Brianna Rollins and Kellie Wells battle in semis one.

The men decathlon is also poised for a strong battle on day two of this competition.
