Stand in skipper Luis Suarez scored twice, including a brilliant finish to break the deadlock in the 18th minute, while Jordan Henderson, Jon Flanagan and Raheem Sterling all added goals on the evening as the hosts, playing with ten-man after Paulinho was sent off, went through another dismal fixture.

Meanwhile, the win sees Liverpool collecting their biggest away victory at Tottenham, while in the process ending a five successive run of defeats in this fixture as Spurs struggled at home big time again today, suffering their worst home defeat for 16 years.

Liverpool now moves up to second place on 33 points, two behind the EPL table leaders Arsenal, who were battered at Manchester City on Saturday, while Chelsea also has 33 points in their place.

“It’s no different being captain but Liverpool has only one captain and that is Stevie Gerrard. We played very well and this is more important than who the captain is,” Liverpool striker Luis Suarez told Sky Sports.

“I try me best on pitch, I am striker and try to score. Today most important is the performance of the team. We played very well. For confidence it is very good.”
