MIAMI, FL Sporting Alert – Scores and results from the Week 1 games played in the 2016-17 NFL season on Sunday.

CHIEFS 33, CHARGERS 27

KANSAS CITY — Highlighting the list of this weekend was the stunning comeback overtime victory by the Kansas City Chiefs over the San Diego Chargers at Arrowhead Stadium.

Down 21-3 at halftime and seem well out of the contest after the first two-quarters, the Chiefs rallied to outscore the Chargers 24-6 in the second half to send the game into overtime with the scores tied at 27-27.

Quarterback Alex Smith then dived for the winning on the first possession of overtime play to complete the rally and give the Chiefs a 33-27.

Smith finished with 34 of 48 on passes for 363 yards and two touchdowns with an interception.

Spencer Ware took seven of his targets for 129 yards, while rushing for another 70 yards on 11 carries with one touchdown.

Jeremy Maclin and Tyreek Hill also took a catch each for a touchdown for Kansas City.

BUCCANEERS 31, FALCONS 24

ATLANTA — Jameis Winston moved past a slow start to toss four touchdown passes to guide the Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat the Atlanta Falcons 31-24 in Week 1 on the NFL schedule on Sunday.

Winston, who threw an interception during the first quarter, bounced back to go 23 of 33 for 281 yards in the opener – hooking up with receiver Mike Evans, running back Charles Sims III and tight ends Austin Sefarian-Jenkins and Brandon Myers for his assists.

Evans also took five catches for 99 yards in the win for the Buccaneers.

Matt Ryan went 27 of 39 on completed passes for 334 and two touchdowns, while Mohamed Sanu and Julio Jones each caught a pass for a touchdown in the defeat for the Falcons.

PACKERS 27, JAGUARS 23

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — EverBank Field, Aaron Rodgers inspired the Green Bay Packers to a 27-23 victory over the JacksonvilleJaguars in a thrilling contest in Week 1.

Rodgers threw for 199 yards and tossed touchdown passes to Jordy Nelson and Davante Adams, while ran for another score to lead the way for the Packers.

Blake Bortles went 24 of 39 for 320 yards and one touchdown and an interception in the defeat for the Jaguars, who put up a good fight in the season opener.
