LONDON, Sporting Alert – Champions League scores from the matchday 6 games that took place on Tuesday, December 8.
The highlighted result on Tuesday was Manchester United’s 3-2 defeat at Wolfsburg, which ultimately led to them crashing out of the tournament.
Shockingly, despite the early exit, manager Louis van Gaal still believes Manchester United are better than they were last year.
“I cannot defend myself because we are out of the Champions League,” the Dutchman said.
But he added: “When you see the facts – we went further in the Capital One Cup, qualified for the Champions League group, we have played all these matches and are still in a very good position in the league.”
“The facts say we are better than last year. I’m also disappointed that we are out of the Champions League.”
The former Barcelona coach added that a team of Manchester United stature shouldn’t already be out of the Champions League so early.
“No, you can say that we were the favourites, but we were in a very tight group, and all the results are like that,” he added.
“It is always 1-0 or 2-1. You remember the first match against PSV when there were decisions of the referee, and also in this game, decisions of the referee that were not positive for us.
“When it is a tight group it can happen.”
Meanwhile, fellow English Premier League outfits Manchester City fended off the challenge of Monchengladbach to seal first place in Group D.
The Citizens defeated the German side 4-2 on Tuesday to top Juventus which suffered a 1-0 defeat at Sevilla on the same day.
The Biggest winner on the day was Real Madrid which hammered Malmo 8-0.
