EPL Half-Time Scores - Sept. 14
LONDON (Sporting Alert) -- Mesut Ozil has already made his mark in the English Premier League (EPL) after setting up Olivier Giroud for Arsenal's opening goal against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
Labeled as the "assist king" Ozil sweetly took down a long ball played down the left hand side with his left foot before putting in a well weighted low cross for Giroud to smash home into the corner past Keiren Westwood in the 11th minute.
Theo Walcott had a chance minutes later to double the lead, but this time he saw his shot parred away impressively by Westwood.
And Westwood came up big again in the 28th minute, denying Walcott a goal with another fantastic save low down at his near post. And it happened again just before half-time when the England keeper stopped the speedy winger from scoring in the game.
Ozil also had a shot at the goal blocked just before the half-time break.
At White Hart Lane, Christian Eriksen delivered a superb measured pass into the path of Gyfli Sigurdsson for the winger to fired home into the back of the net from just inside the penalty area as Tottenham lead Norwich 1-0.
At Villa Park, Hatem Ben Arfa nicely slotted home from close range to give Newcastle United the lead against Aston Villa, following a build up play involving striker Loic Remy.
At Fulham, Steve Sidwell fired his team into the lead in the 22nd minute against West Browmwich, after a corner kick.
Earlier goals from Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney guided Manchester United to a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace.
In the battle between the newly promoted sides, Hull City have the lead against Cardiff City through defender Curtis Davies, who headed home off a ball from Tom Huddlestone.
