LONDON (Sporting Alert) — Manchester City raced to the top of the English Premier League table standings in commanding style after beating 10-man Tottenham 5-1 at White Hart Lane on Wednesday night.
EPL Highlights: Manchester City Hammer Tottenham 5-1
Striker Sergio Aguero signaled his intent early when he struck the post from a tight angle, before finally putting the visitors ahead in the 15th minute.
The Argentine forward smartly timed his run when collecting a through-ball pass from David Silva before beating goalkeeper Hugo Lloris from the same tight angle in which he hit the post.
Michael Dawson had the ball in the back of the net for Tottenham, but his goal was ruled out for offside, although replays showed the linesman got his call wrong.
After the break full-back, Danny Rose was controversially sent off for fouling Edin Dzeko in the box and Yaya Toure made no mistake from the penalty spot.
Half-time substitute Etienne Capoue pulled one back for Tottenham in the 59th minute to make it 2-1 as the hosts continued to fight.
However, it became too easy for City who collected goals from Stevan Jovetic, who netted his first Premier League goal of the season, Edin Dzeko and Vincent Kompany in the win.
It was an easy outing for Manchester City, but they left White Hart Lane with some concerns, as Aguero limped off shortly before half-time with a calf injury that could rule him out of the clash against Chelsea.
