Kentucky Stays No. 1; Louisville Slipped In AP Poll

MIAMI (Sporting Alert) — Kentucky stays the unanimous No. 1 team in the AP Top 25 men’s basketball poll on Monday, but Louisville slipped one place in the rankings.

MIAMI (Sporting Alert) — Kentucky stays the unanimous No. 1 team in the AP Top 25 men’s basketball poll on Monday, but Louisville slipped one place in the rankings.

The Wildcats (13-0), as expected, collected all 65 first-place votes to start the week for the fourth successive week with 1,625 points after beating then No. 4 Louisville, 58-50 on Saturday.

Duke (10-0), who has been off the court since beating defending champions Connecticut, 66-56, on Dec 18 remains No. 2, but Virginia (11-0) moved up two places from last week rankings to third and Wisconsin (12-1) is up from sixth to fourth.

The Louisville Cardinals (11-1) slipped one spot to fifth.

Villanova (12-0), Gonzaga (12-1), Arizona (12-1), Iowa State (9-1) and Utah (9-2) complete the top 10.

The Wildcats slipped five-places from third last week to eight, after their 71-67 defeat to UNLV last week Tuesday.

Texas (10-2) is down two places to 11th after losing to 74-71 to Stanford, while Maryland (12-1) climbed from 15th to 12th in this week’s poll.

Kansas, Notre Dame and St. John’s round out the top 15.

Georgetown (8-3), who has been playing well recently and won three straight, was the only newcomer in the top 25 in this week’s poll.

The Hoyas have replaced TCU at No. 25, despite the Horned Frogs (12-0) remaining undefeated on the season.
