Nicolas Otamendi

LONDON, Sporting Alert – Manchester United are set to walk away from their battle with Real Madrid for defender Sergio Ramos and push for Valencia’s Nicolas Otamendi.

Sky Sports: Valencia Rejects Man United Otamendi Bid

The Old Trafford outfits are in the market to sign a centre-back and it is understood that Ramos is the man manager Louis van Gaal wants.

However, Real Madrid are resisting to let the Spanish international leave the Santiago Bernabeu and Manchester United are prepared to look elsewhere.

Ramos has apparently asked his club to let him join Man United, but Los Blancos are refusing to listen to his demands, which also makes a move for goalkeeper David de Gea to Spain increasingly complex.

It is now understood that the Red Devils are looking to make a bid for Otamendi, who is determined to leave the La Liga club.

According to MARCA, Otamendi, who earlier this summer reportedly told Valencia that he wants out, is hoping to secure a move away from the Spanish side before July 26 when the players are scheduled to return to the Mestalla.

The 27-year-old was one of the top defenders in the Spanish League during the last season and Manchester United believe he would be a good fit at Old Trafford.

Reports claimed that Valencia are looking to get £35million for the Argentina international, but they are still to receive any formal bids.

At the moment, Man United are on tour of the United States, with Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Patrick McNair and Jonny Evans, being the club’s first choice central defenders.

However, Van Gaal believes the club is still indeed of a world-class defender to lead the backline and he is determined to sign one before the transfer window closes in September.
