Fellow title challengers, defending champions Manchester United and Chelsea both started with victories of the weekend and Pellegrini is hoping his team will match those results and keep in touch with the front runners.

In fact, SkyBet is backing the big spending Manchester City to come away with a comfortable win at 30/100.

New summer signings Jesus Navas, Alvaro Negredo Fernandinho and Stevan Jovetic are all in line to make their debuts, while striker Sergio Aguero has been included in the game squad and is in contention for the opener after overcoming a knee injury.

Defender Matija Nastasic will, however, miss the game after sustaining an ankle injury during preseason.

Newcastle, meanwhile, will be without on loan forward Loic Remy, who is still not recovered from a calf injury.

It is believed that midfielder Yohan Cabaye is attracting interests from Manchester United and Arsenal, but he is still included in Alan Pardew’s squad for the game.
