SUNDERLAND (Sporting Alert) — New Summer signing Mesut Ozil makes his debut as he starts in midfield for Arsenal in today against Sunderland at Stadium of Light.

Ozil, who made a club record transfer move from Real Madrid on deadline day, will start in the playmaking role for the Gunners and will feature alongside England international Jack Wilshere.

At the same time, Spain international Santi Cazorla is not involved today, but captain and central defender Thomas Vermaelen returns to the bench, returning to the side from an injury.

Bacary Sagna, who starts at centre-back, will skipper the side from the opening whistle today, while the inform Olivier Giroud leads the attack for the visitors.

Czech midfielder Tomas Rosicky (thigh) and France Under-21 striker Yaya Sanogo (back) are both out for Arsenal.

Meanwhile, new recruit Ki Sung-yueng makes his Sunderland debut as the home side look to spoil debut for Ozil.
