No. 2 Villanova, No. 3 Kansas and No. 5 Duke were all among the ranked team picking up wins on the day, while No. 21 Rhode Island and No. 22 Syracuse both fell on the busy day of action.
NO. 2 VILLANOVA 82, PENN 57
PHILADELPHIA — At The Palestra in Philadelphia, Kris Jenkins made six 3-pointers on his way to scoring 22 points on 7 of 11 shooting, and the second-ranked Villanova blew past Penn 82-57 on Tuesday night.
Jenkins, who also went 6 of 7 from long-range, pulled down five rebounds, while Donte Divincenzo hit three 3-pointers and scored 13 points for the defending national champion.
Josh Hart had 12 points and nine assists and six rebounds off the bench, Darryl Reynolds finished with 12 points and eight boards, Jalen Brunson scored 11 points and Mikal-bridges added 10 points, five rebounds and three steals for the Wildcats (7-0), who were beating the Quakers for the 14th straight time.
Villanova shot 55.1 percent from the field on 27 of 49 shooting, while going 12 of 26 for 46.2 percent from long range.
Jackson Donahue led Penn with 12 points with AJ Brodeur and Darnell Foreman each scoring 10 points for the Quakers (2-3).
No. 4 KANSAS 91, LONG BEACH STATE 61
LAWRENCE, Kan. — At Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence, Lagerald Vick poured in a career-high 23 points on 9 of 9 shooting, including 4 for 4 from long-range, and No. 4 Kansas ran over Long Beach State 91-61 in an AP Top 25 score.
Vick’s only miss on the night came from the free throw line where he went 1 of 2.
Svi Mykhailiuk had 14, Josh Jackson added 13 points and Devonte Graham finished with 12 for the Jayhawks (6-1), who were winning six straight.
Justin Bibbins lead the way for Long Beach State with 13 points and five assists, while Gabe Levin ended with 11 points for the 49ers (1-8), who were losing eight in a row.
All eight defeats came on the road and were mostly against teams expected to book places in the NCAA Tournament later in the season.
No. 5 DUKE 78, MICHIGAN STATE 69
DURHAM, N.C. — At Cameron Indoor Stadium, Grayson Allen scored 24 points to help No. 5 Duke beat Michigan State in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
Allen started the game with eight first-half points, but scored 16 in the second half to help build a lead for the Blue Devils (7-1).
Luke Kennard added 20 and six rebounds, Amile Jefferson collected another double-double this season with 17 points and 13 rebounds and freshman Frank Jackson ended with 11 points for Duke, which used an 11-0 run to pull away from the Spartans, who turned the ball over 18 times in the game.
Duke, which was without freshmen Harry Giles, Jayson Tatum and Marques Bolden, shot 45.5 percent from the field but was only 27 percent from 3-point range.
The hosts were winning for the fifth straight time since losing to Kansas.
Eron Harris scored 14 points for Michigan State (4-4), while star freshman Miles Bridges was held to 11 points and shot just 4 of 13.
In other AP Top 25 scores, No. 7 Xavier rolled past North Dakota State 85-55, No. 10 Creighton defeated Buffalo 93-72, No. 17 Wisconsin eased to a 77-60 victory over No. 22 Syracuse, while No. 21 Rhode Island was beaten 65-62 by Valparaiso.
