No. 25 USC v Oklahoma

Trae Young, Oklahoma Take On No. 25 USC at Staples Center

LOS ANGELES, Sporting Alert – Oklahoma, with the nation’s leading scorer Trae Young, will tackle No. 25 USC in one of three games involving an AP Top 25 team at Staples Center on Friday night.

ESPN2 will televise this game live with streaming available on WatchESPN, starting at 10:30 pm ET.

Young is averaging an NCAA-best 28.7 points per game, and has scored 30 or more points in three of the last four outing, including 43 against Oregon on Nov. 26.

The freshman from Norman, Okla., is also averaging 8.7 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game.

This will be the first time the Sooners (6-1), who have won four straight, will be facing a ranked team this season, but ESPN’s Basketball Power Index is giving them a 53 percent chance to make it five in a row.

Meanwhile, USC (4-2) dropped 11 places in the latest AP Top 25 rankings after being upset 72-55 by SMU last week.

The Trojans won their first four games, but have suffered back-to-back losses and have failed to score 60 points in each of them.

Chimezie Metu’s 16 points and seven rebounds lead USC this season, while Bennie Boatwright is averaging 15.3 points and 7.7 rebounds and Jordan McLaughlin, 13 points and 5.8 assists.

Christian James with 11.9 points and Khadeem Lattin 11.1 points and 9.1 rebounds are key contributors for Oklahoma, which is ranked second this season in points per game with 94.4 ppg.

In the third game at Staples Center, No. 20 TCU and No. 22 Nevada will square off live on ESPNU and streaming on WatchESPN, starting at 1:00 am ET.

The Horned Frogs (9-0) are off to another impressive start for the second year in a row, but should be well tested against the Wolf Pack (8-1), who lost 82-76 to Texas Tech on Tuesday night, but won the first eight games of the season.

Elsewhere inside Staples Center, undefeated No. 16 Arizona State (7-0) will meet St. John’s (8-1) in the night’s opening game at 8:00 pm ET.
