UPDATED: EPL Table Standings On April 26 1
LONDON (Sporting Alert) — English Premier League results and points standings after the fixtures that were played on Sunday, April 26.
Leaders Chelsea stayed 10 points clear at the top of the table standings after playing to a 0-0 draw with Arsenal. The draw means Arsenal stayed third on 67 points, two more than Manchester United who were defeated 3-0 at Everton.
Defending champions Manchester City used the opportunity to move into second place on Saturday, following a late 3-2 victory over Aston Villa.
Midfielder Fernandinho netted the winning goal for the Citizens in the 89th minute, after Aston Villa had rallied from a two-goal deficit to tie the game with five-minutes to play.
The win saw Manchester City leapfrog both Arsenal and Manchester United into second place. They are also on 67 points, but lead the Gunners on goal difference.
“Today we didn’t play as well, but we had the spirit and fight to win in the last five minutes despite their late equaliser,” Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini said.
“The results are always more important than the performances, but I think that we normally play well, today we showed the spirit and the belief that perhaps we have not had in other games when we have had more possession.
“I was not satisfied with the way we played today, but sometimes you need different things to win games.”
Also picking up another vital win on the day were Leicester City, who secured a 1-0 win at Burnley to extend their good recent form and claimed out of the relegation zone.
A second half brace from Dame N’Doye carried Hull City to a 2-0 victory at Crystal Palace, as the Tigers battle to stay in the Premier League next season.
Also at the bottom of the table standings, Queens Park Rangers could only managed a 0-0 draw with West Ham United, after striker Charlie Austin missed a first half penalty kick.
Newcastle United woes continue this season after they fell 3-2 at home to Swansea City. They were suffering their seventh straight loss
Elsewhere, Southampton and Tottenham battled to a 2-2 draw, while Liverpool also missed the chance to close the gap on the top four after they were held 0-0 at West Bromwich Albion .
Sunderland drop continue in the second part of the season as they were held 1-1 at Stoke City and joined QPR and Burnley in the bottom three.
