The match will be the first in pre-season for Jurgen Klopp as manager of Liverpool, after the German took over the Premier League team at the start of this year.
Friday’s friendly will also give several squad players the chance to prove themselves to Klopp, as he looks to shape his squad for the upcoming season.
A number of first team players, including Daniel Sturridge, Adam Lallana, Simon Mignolet, Nathaniel Clyne, Martin Skrtel, James Milner, Jordan Henderson, Joe Allen and Divock Origi, who were all involved in the European Championships, as expected, will not be part of the first pre-season friendly.
Striker Christian Benteke, who has been linked with a move to Crystal Palace, and was also a member of Belgium’s team at Euro 2016, will be away as well, while Brazil’s skilful playmaker Philippe Coutinho, who played in the Copa America in the United States last month will watch from the side.
Holding midfielder Emre Can, who was in action for Germany against France in the semi-finals of Euro 2016, will also be unavailable.
Speedy winger Jordan Ibe, according to Sky Sports News, is in talks with Bournemouth over a £15m move, so he too will be unavailable for selection.
The likes of Roberto Firmino and Alberto Moreno, a fit-again Danny Ings, Andre Wisdom and youngster Trent Alexander Arnold, are set to play some part in the contest for Liverpool.
Mark Benstead and Claire Rourke will provide live build-up of the game from Prenton Park, starting at 1:30 ET.
The match will be the first of nine pre-season scheduled fixtures for Liverpool, as Klopp prepares the Reds for the 2016-17 campaign.
